VA Disability Calculator: Monthly Pay, Combined Ratings, and What SMC Adds

A VA disability calculator answers one question: if this percentage (or this combine) is correct, what does the regular 10–100% table pay a veteran alone this month. It does not answer whether the percentage is right. It does not score Aid & Attendance, housebound, or loss of use. Those are Special Monthly Compensation questions — and they are why a lot of veterans at 90% or 100% still need a file review.

The tool below uses the official 2026 veteran-alone compensation amounts effective December 1, 2025, transcribed from VA.gov veteran rates. Combined ratings follow VA’s whole-person method (38 C.F.R. § 4.25). We do not invent household tables here. Dependents change the check at 30% and above — use our 2026 disability rates page or VA.gov for those rows.

Veterans Promise is a veteran-led team based in Nashville. We work with veterans nationwide on rating increases and SMC, including Aid & Attendance and housebound. The representative who signs onto a Veterans Promise application is VA accredited. That does not mean every person at the company is accredited, and it does not mean we are VA or a VSO. This page is general information, not legal or medical advice. We are not affiliated with VA. VA decides every claim. No one can honestly guarantee a rating or a dollar amount.

This is not a claim decision. Bilateral factors, temporary ratings, and some special rules can change a real combine. Confirm with VA’s combined ratings explanation and the official rate tables.

What this calculator does — and what it cannot

It looks up a published 2026 veteran-alone monthly amount for a single rating, or for a combine of up to three ratings using VA’s whole-person method. That is useful for a rough check against a decision letter or a bank deposit.

It cannot tell you whether VA will grant an increase. It cannot apply bilateral factors, temporary 100% convalescent ratings, or every edge case in 38 C.F.R. Part 4. It cannot price Aid & Attendance, housebound, or SMC-K. Those dollars live on a different schedule. See the SMC section on the rates page.

If the letter already pays at 100% — schedular or TDIU — another 10% on an old code often will not change the regular table. The remaining questions are usually SMC, an underrated individual code, or leaving the file alone. That is 100% is not the ceiling.

How combined ratings work inside the tool

VA does not add percentages. A 50% and a 30% look like 80 on a receipt. Under the whole-person method they combine to 65 and round to 70%. That is VA’s own example. Longer walkthrough: VA combined ratings (VA math). Official table and explanation: How VA determines disability ratings.

When a new problem is caused by a rated disability, that is often a secondary, not a higher percentage on the original code. Secondaries change the combine. They do not automatically create SMC.

What the percentage calculator never prices

Special Monthly Compensation pays for facts the 10–100% table does not score. 2026 veteran-alone examples (effective Dec 1, 2025): SMC-K add-on $139.87; SMC-S (housebound) $4,408.53; SMC-L $4,900.83. Full lettered table: 2026 disability rates. Source: VA SMC rates.

If someone helps you dress, bathe, or stay safe — or you are substantially stuck at home — a percentage calculator is the wrong tool. Start with SMC and Form 21-2680.

Complimentary consult — we do not bill 5× the increase

The first conversation is complimentary. We do not bill five times a VA rating increase. Bring the latest decision letter if you have it. We sort whether the next filing looks like an increase, a secondary, a decision review, or SMC — including at 90% or 100%. How the call works: how Veterans Promise works. FAQ

Is this an official VA calculator?

No. Veterans Promise is a private company, not affiliated with VA. The dollar amounts are transcribed from VA.gov 2026 tables (effective December 1, 2025). Combined ratings follow 38 C.F.R. 4.25. Confirm any figure on VA.gov before you rely on it.

Why does my deposit not match the calculator?

Dependents, SMC, withholding, debt offsets, and mid-month changes can move the deposit. This tool is veteran-alone regular compensation only. Compare the codesheet and the award letter, not only the bank amount.

Does the calculator include Aid & Attendance or housebound?

No. Those are SMC levels on a different schedule. Use the SMC section on our 2026 rates page and the SMC pillar. A short DBQ or percentage calculator will not build that record by itself.

Can you guarantee my rating will match this number?

No. VA decides every claim. The calculator looks up published rates. It does not predict grants, increases, or SMC letters.
